The Empty Book
The Di-Gata Redemption is the eighteenth episode of the second season.
The Defenders respond to a distress call, only for it to be a trap made by the Ogaman Federation, led by Bo, who arrests Erik for destroying the Tome of Al-Mortagar. As he was being imprisoned, one of the Wizard Stones put him a vision, revealing the third Icon, hidden in the prison. Before the Defenders leave, Erik makes Adam promise to look out for Kara. Erik is put with a cellmate who thinks he's a Wizard. Worse, he accidentally gets into a fight with the prison muscle, Orak, who had connections with the guards.
While on washer duty, he hides from Orak, learning that he is working for Malco to force him to reveal the Icon's location. Erik sends a pigeon with a message to the others, who tried to appeal to the judge but were rejected. Luckily for Erik, his cellmate spoke the truth and he was a mercenary of the Wizards of Yan, and knew that he was there to retrieve the third Icon.
Beneath the prison, it is revealed that it is also a containment for a creature called the Raath-Marak that is not of RaDos, which caused the original RaDosian transport to crash land in the realm long ago. According to legends, a wizard who mastered the lost sigils was able to contain it, with the cost of his life. Knowing he had to fulfil his duty, the containment is opened, which destroyed Orak with his two companions behind Erik. The Defenders promptly arrived and tried to defeat it. However, every time the creature is hit, it grows bigger and stronger; it even withstands the Nova Stone. With no choice left, Erik uses the two primordial sigils to drain its energy, but the power proves to be too much. Kara knew that she had to help her brother, so she took his place and absorbed the Raath-Marak's energy. The creature is destroyed but with a great cost: the loss of Kara, whose spirit now lives within the Life Stone.
