Guardians

The Defenders and their guardians.

Guardians are creatures that lived in RaDos before the death of the Primordials, but now exist within Di-Gata stones called Guardian Stones.

Guardian History[]

Guardians are beings made of pure energy, and they vary in size, appearance, and abilities. Each guardian has different attack and defensive powers, but even the least powerful among them are a valuable asset to any duel. Most are bound to a sigil, but some are bound to henges. Most of these sigils or henges are engraved on a part of the guardian's body.

During the reign of the Bakkorian Kings, the Wizards of Yan learned how to channel the energy essence of guardians into stones. The Bakkorian Princes, an elite cadre of Di-Gata stone fighters, were among the first to wield Guardian Stones. As the Wizards realized the immense power of the Guardian Stones may eventually fall into the wrong hands, the Guardian War broke out between them and the Kings. The War resulted in the end of the Bakkorian rule, and the establishment of the Wizards as the governing figures of RaDos. Since then, Guardian Stones could only be distributed by those with an affiliation to the Wizards of Yan.

Guardian Merging[]

Guardians can be merged together to form larger, stronger guardians. The first time this is seen is when Kragus and Omniaxor merge to form Omnikrag. This was done willingly by the two guardians, to save Kragus, displaying that guardians can merge together of their own free will, without human intervention.

It is also shown that guardians can be merged artificially to create mutant guardians, as Si'i does with a device called the Guardianizer. However, the guardians it creates are erratic, and are unable to distinguish friend from foe. When Brackus and his guardian Anaconduit were banished to the Dark Realm, they became separated upon returning to RaDos. It is taken by Si'i and rebuilt as Dark Viper, a by-product of a merge between Anaconduit and another guardian. Even though these mutants are made from body and sigil parts of multiple guardians, it is revealed that they maintain their memories, as Dark Viper still recognized Brackus.

Merge Form[]

It is possible for a caster and guardian to merge, either willingly or by the death of the guardian. When Kragus protects Seth from Omniaxor's attack, it is destroyed in the process. Although its guardian stone is gone, shards of Kragus phase into Seth causing the two to become merged without his knowledge. Over the course of a few months, this causes Seth to grow rock-like armour over his body, and have greatly increased strength. However, this also made him aggressive and emotionally unstable, but he soon learns to control it. They are later separated by the Megalith.

Another example is later found in with King Magnan, who discovered the secret to immortality is merging with one's guardian. He willingly merged with his guardian Voltanis, turning them into a giant, two-headed monster called Infinimora. However, this also drove him mad, and he realized that in order to save himself from the madness, he had to search for a new host that could absorb his spirit to give him eternal life. King Magnan's spirit is also able to separate from Infinimora, but if they stay apart for too long, Voltanis will return to its normal form.

In "Shape Shifted", the Defenders' Dojo is infiltrated by Kali, who reprograms the security system to self-destruct. Rion, Mel and Seth go down to the power core to attempt to shut it down, and use their guardians to shift the main stone sigilation. However they do not finish it time, and the core explodes in a blast of energy. The three Defenders become merged with their guardians, but they are able to control when they want to merge and can separate the merge at will. These merges provide many useful traits such as increased strength, flight, and the ability to breathe underwater.
